The Vice-President of Malawi is the second most important political leader in Malawi. This person helps the President run the country. In Malawi, the Vice-President is also known as Wotsatira wa Mtsogoleri wa Dziko la Malawi in Chichewa and Wachiŵili kwa Mlongozgi wa charu cha Malaŵi in Tumbuka.
The Vice-President is chosen at the same time as the President during elections. Sometimes, the President can even choose a Second Vice-President to help out. This important job was created in November 1994. The main role of the Vice-President is to take over if the President is away, cannot do their job, or passes away.
