Vicente Gaos (Valencia, March 27, 1919 - Valencia, October 17, 1980) was a Spanish poet and essayist. A poet writes poems, and an essayist writes short pieces of writing called essays. He was the brother of José and Lola Gaos, who were also well-known.

Vicente Gaos won the Premio Adonais award in 1943 for his book of poems called Arcángel de mi noche. After he passed away, he was also given the Nacional de Poesía award in 1980.

Early Life and Education

Vicente Gaos was born into a family that loved art and learning. This family background greatly influenced his own writing. He studied philosophy and literature at the University of Madrid in Spain.

Later, he earned a special degree called a Doctorate from the National University of Mexico. He then became a professor of Spanish Literature. He taught at many universities in North America and Europe.

His Important Works

Vicente Gaos is most famous for his poetry. His poems are still read and enjoyed by many people. He also worked on a very important edition of the famous book Don Quixote. This special edition included many notes and explanations. It was published after he died.

His Legacy
