Vicki Anderson (born Myra Barnes; November 21, 1939 – July 3, 2023) was an American soul singer. She was best known for singing with the famous James Brown Revue. Vicki recorded many songs using both her birth name and her stage name. She was married to Bobby Byrd and was the mother of singer Carleen Anderson.

Early Life and Music Career

Myra Barnes was born in Houston, Texas. She joined James Brown's group in 1965. Vicki became his main female singer for three years. She then left and later rejoined the group in 1969. She sang with James Brown for another three years until 1972. James Brown himself once said that Vicki Anderson was the best singer he ever had in his show.

Famous Songs and Tours

In 1970, Vicki Anderson released her most well-known song, "The Message from the Soul Sisters." This song became a powerful anthem for women. She also toured the United Kingdom in the late 1980s with the James Brown Funky People Revue. Later, in the mid-1990s, she toured again with her husband, Bobby Byrd. Bobby Byrd was the founder of a group called The Famous Flames.

Family Life

Vicki Anderson married Bobby Byrd in the mid-1960s. Their daughter, Carleen Anderson, also became a singer. Carleen released her own music albums starting in the 1990s.

Vicki Anderson passed away on July 3, 2023, when she was 83 years old.
