The beautiful Villa Caprile in Pesaro, Italy.

The Villa Caprile, also known as Villa Mosca, is a beautiful old palace located near Pesaro, Italy. It's built in a style called Baroque, which was popular a long time ago. This grand country house is found on the Strada di Caprile, just outside the old city gate called Porta Rimini.

History of Villa Caprile

How the Villa Began

This amazing villa was built way back in 1640. A nobleman named Marquis Giovanni Mosca had it made as his summer home. He even included special fountains that had fun "water play" features, called giochi d'acqua.

Later, his son Francesco rebuilt the chapel at the villa. Another family member, Carlo Mosca Barzi, updated the villa even more, giving it a new look in the Neoclassical style. In the 1700s, lovely covered walkways called arbors were added to the gardens. During the time when Napoleon's armies were in charge, the villa was given to the local town.

A Royal Visitor

From 1817 to 1818, the Villa Caprile had a very important guest: Caroline of Brunswick. She was the princess of Wales and later became the Queen-consort of the United Kingdom for a short time. Caroline was living away from her husband, George IV of the United Kingdom, who was not very popular.

From Palace to School

In 1876, the villa became home to a practical agriculture school. Later, in 1924, it changed into a middle-level agricultural school. Today, it still serves as an agricultural technical institute, teaching students about farming and nature. Sadly, the beautiful gardens were damaged during World War II.

Gardens and Art at the Villa

Exploring the Gardens

As of 2015, you can visit the wonderful gardens and see the fountains at Villa Caprile. The main part of the villa itself needs some repairs inside.

The garden side of the villa has a lovely terrace with a stone railing. From there, two sets of stairs lead down to another garden area. This part is designed in a formal Italian garden style, with neat shapes and patterns. If you go down even further, you'll find a large oval pool. In the middle of this pool is a statue of Atlante holding up the world.

Art Inside the Villa

The rooms inside the villa are decorated with amazing paintings called frescoes. These paintings show scenes from old myths. They were created in the 1600s by an artist named Giulio Cesare Begni. More artworks were added in the 1700s by another artist, Ubaldo Geminiani.
