History of Roll Hill
Early Railroad Project
Back in the 1850s, there was a big plan for Roll Hill. A company called the Cincinnati Western Railroad wanted to build a train track. This track would go all the way from Cincinnati to Chicago.
They started digging a tunnel under Roll Hill. But the company ran into problems. In 1860, they ran out of money and stopped working. The train tunnel under Roll Hill was never finished.
Becoming a Neighborhood
Later, in the 1960s, Roll Hill changed a lot. It became a place with many public housing buildings. These buildings were named Fay Apartments.
In the 2010s, the neighborhood got a big update. The buildings were renovated, which means they were repaired and improved. This project cost about $36 million. During these renovations, in December 2012, the neighborhood got a new name. It changed from Fay Apartments to Villages at Roll Hill.
