Vincenza Garelli della Morea was born in a place called Valeggio in Italy. She loved music from a young age. She studied music in Turin with famous teachers like Carlo Pedrotti and Giovanni Bolzoni. Later, she learned even more from Giovanni Sgambati. She married a man named Count de Cardenas. They lived in Milan, a big city in Italy. In Milan, she went to special gatherings called "salons" at Countess Maffei's house, where artists and thinkers met. In 1888, she moved to Rome, another important city.
