Vinko Kos (born July 10, 1914 – died May 1945) was a Croatian writer. He wrote poems and stories, especially for children.

Early Life and Education

Vinko Kos was born in a small village called Vučetinec. This village is in Croatia. He was born on July 10, 1914. His parents were Petar and Ana Kos. Sadly, his mother passed away in 1942, and his father in 1945.

Vinko went to primary school in his village. He was very smart but also very poor. A poet named Stjepan Horvat helped him continue his education. Vinko then went to a special school called the Varaždin Franciscan Gymnasium. He also studied at a seminary in Škofja Loka.

His Writing Career

In 1936, Vinko stopped his studies. In 1937, he started writing for many different newspapers and magazines. He wrote for publications like Luč, Hrvatska prosvjeta, Hrvatska revija, and Jutarnji list. He wrote many articles and stories during this time.

A Special Project

Vinko Kos worked with Alojzije Stepinac, who was a very important religious leader. With his help, Vinko opened a special place called Dječji grad. This was a school or center for very young children, even before they started regular school. It helped them learn and grow.

His Disappearance

In 1945, Vinko Kos was living in Zagreb with his wife and two daughters. During a very difficult time in history, he disappeared near Klagenfurt. He was only 31 years old. His body was never found.
