The Vinton School is a historic building located in Omaha, Nebraska. It was first built in 1908 as a fourteen-room elementary school. You can find it at 2120 Deer Park Boulevard in the Deer Park neighborhood.

This special building was designed by a well-known Omaha architect named Frederick W. Clarke. It is famous for being the earliest and most detailed example of a Tudor Revival-style school in Omaha. Because of its unique history and design, Vinton School became an Omaha Landmark in June 1990. It was also added to the National Register of Historic Places in November 1989.

About Vinton School's Design

The Vinton School building has a distinctive look, designed in the Tudor Revival style. This architectural style often reminds people of old English homes. The school was built as a two-story structure using strong bricks. It has a rectangular shape and features several hipped roofs, which means the roofs slope down on all sides.

The building's structure uses strong walls to support its floors. These floors were originally made with wood joists. Even though the building has been updated, its original outside features are still there.

From School to Apartments

After serving as a school for many years, the Vinton School building was given a new purpose. In 1990, it was carefully updated and turned into an apartment building. This process is called rehabilitation. It allowed the historic building to continue being used while keeping its important architectural details.

The Architect: Frederick W. Clarke

The talented architect behind Vinton School was Frederick W. Clarke. He was a very busy and important architect in Omaha. Besides Vinton School, he also designed six other schools for the Omaha Public Schools district. One of his other notable designs is Tech High.
