Viola Clare Bayley (born January 8, 1911 – died January 1997) was a British writer. She was famous for writing exciting adventure and mystery stories for children.

Viola Clare Wingfield Powles was born on January 8, 1911. Her hometown was Rye in Sussex, England. Her parents were Isabel Grace Wingfield and Lewis Charles Powles.

Education and Early Life

Viola went to Effingham House for her schooling. She also studied at the Behnke Drama School. Later, she earned a special qualification from the Guildhall School of Music.

Life in India

In the winter of 1933, Viola visited her uncle in Lahore, India. Her uncle was a High Court Judge there. In India, she met Vernon Thomas Bayley. He worked for the Indian Police. They got engaged and Viola returned to England to get married.

After their wedding, Viola and Vernon moved to Hangu, India, in 1934. In 1935, they moved to Delhi. They often traveled to places like Simla and Gulmarg. After World War II, they moved back to England in 1946. Viola and Vernon had two sons and two daughters.
