Virú is a town in northern Peru. It is the main town, or capital, of the Virú Province in the La Libertad Region. This town is located about 48 kilometers (30 miles) south of the city of Trujillo. Virú is mostly known as an important center for farming in the Viru Valley.
Life in Virú
In the 1960s, about 850 families lived in the town of Virú. Most people, around 60% of the population, worked in farming. The other 40% worked in shops and different services. At that time, the town had a movie theater, a hospital, and a secondary school for students.
Location and Importance
Virú is an important town because of its location in the Virú Valley. This valley is known for its rich soil, which is great for growing crops. The town serves as a hub for the farmers in the area. It helps them sell their products and get the supplies they need.
The town's mayor, Ney Gámez, helps lead the local government. The government works to provide services for the people living in Virú.
