Virginia, Missouri facts for kids
Virginia is a small place in Bates County, in the U.S. state of Missouri. It is called an unincorporated community. This means it's a group of homes and businesses that don't have their own local government, like a city or town does. Instead, it's part of the larger county.
A Look Back: Virginia's History
Virginia was officially planned out in 1871. This process is called "platting" a town, which means someone drew up maps showing where streets and building lots would be. The community was named after the state of Virginia. Many of the first people who settled here came from that state.
A post office opened in Virginia in 1871. This was a very important place for people to send and receive letters and packages. The post office served the community for many years, helping people connect with others, until it closed in 1906.
