Virginia Field (born Margaret Cynthia Field) was a British actress. She was born on November 4, 1917, in London, UK, and passed away on January 2, 1992. She became well-known for her roles in many films and television shows during her career, which lasted from 1922 to 1965.

Early Life and Career Beginnings

Virginia Field was the only child of Sir John Field, who was a judge in Leicester, England. Her mother was a relative of the famous American Civil War General Robert E. Lee. Virginia also had an aunt named Auriol Lee, who was a well-known British stage actress and director.

Virginia received her education in several European cities, including Paris and Vienna. In Vienna, she had the chance to act for the famous director Max Reinhardt. After returning to England, she got her first film role when she was still a teenager. This led to her getting a contract to work in Hollywood, which is the center of the film industry in the United States.

Film Career

Virginia Field moved to the United States to act in the 1936 film Little Lord Fauntleroy. In the late 1930s, she appeared in several movies in the Mr. Moto film series. These films were made by 20th Century Fox.

In 1940, Virginia played a ballerina named Kitty in the movie Waterloo Bridge, starring alongside Vivien Leigh. The next year, in 1941, she played Nell Gwyn in the film Hudson's Bay.

Television Appearances

Virginia Field also had a busy career in television. She made six guest appearances on the popular TV series Perry Mason, which aired from 1957 to 1966.

  • In 1958, she played Irene Collaro in an episode called "The Case of the Prodigal Parent."
  • She played the role of a murderess in two episodes: "The Case of the Provocative Protege" in 1960 and "The Case of the Polka Dot Pony" in 1962.
  • In 1964, she played Ramona Carver, who was a client and defendant of Perry Mason, in "The Case of the Simple Simon."

Virginia also appeared in an episode of the ABC series The Rebel, where she played Lotta Langley. She was also a regular on a show called Pantomime Quiz. In August 1960, she had a role as Josephine Dunning in the pilot episode of a comedy show called Meet the Girls.

Achievements and Personal Life

Virginia Field was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. This special star is located at 1751 Vine Street in Los Angeles and was dedicated on February 8, 1960.

She was married three times during her life. Her husbands included the actors Paul Douglas and Willard Parker. Virginia and Paul Douglas had a daughter together named Margaret Field Douglas, who was born in 1945. In 1947, she married Howard Grode, who was a composer and musician.

Later Years and Passing

Virginia Field passed away from cancer on January 2, 1992. She was cremated, and her ashes were scattered at sea.
