Who Was Sir Vivian Molyneux?
Vivian Molyneux was the son of Sir Richard Molyneux, 1st Baronet of Sefton. His mother was Frances, the daughter of Sir Gilbert Gerard.
Vivian's Early Life and Education
Vivian Molyneux went to Brazen Nose College, Oxford. He started his studies there on November 24, 1609, when he was 14 years old. He earned his B.A. degree on July 1, 1612. Later, on February 2, 1612, he joined Grays Inn, which was a place where people studied law. He was also listed on the Preston Guild's records in 1602, 1622, and 1642.
His Travels and Royal Connections
Vivian Molyneux traveled to many different countries. While he was in Rome, he became a Roman Catholic, even though he had been raised as a Puritan.
After returning to England, King Charles I made him a knight on July 27, 1639, in Berwick. In 1640, he served as a Lieutenant-Colonel in the English army. This army was led by Earl of Northumberland. They were fighting in the Second Bishops' War against Scotland.
Supporting the King in the Civil War
During the English Civil War, Sir Vivian Molyneux strongly supported the Royalist cause. This meant he was on the side of King Charles I. He faced difficulties because of his loyalty to the King.
