Sir Richard Molyneux (born 1560, died 1622) was an important person in England a long time ago. He was a Member of Parliament (MP) for Lancashire. This means he helped make laws for the country. He was also the Mayor of Liverpool and managed money for the King in a special area called the Duchy of Lancaster. He was given the special title of a Baronet.
Sir Richard Molyneux's Life
Sir Richard Molyneux was the son of William Molyneux and Bridget Caryll. His grandfather, also named Sir Richard Molyneux, was an MP for Liverpool. Young Richard went to University College, Oxford to study.
In 1581, Richard became an MP for Wigan. He took the place of Sir Edward Fitton. In 1586, he was made a knight. This was a special honor given by the King or Queen.
He served as the Mayor of Liverpool in 1588 and 1589. He was also the High Sheriff of Lancashire in 1588 and 1596. This job was like being the main law enforcement officer in the county. He was an MP for Lancashire three times: in 1584, 1593, and 1604.
From 1607, he was the Receiver-General of the Duchy of Lancaster. This meant he was in charge of collecting money and managing lands for the King in that area. In 1611, he was given the new title of Baronet Molyneux. This was a special title that could be passed down in his family.
When he passed away, Sir Richard was buried in Sefton parish church. His main homes were Sefton Hall in Sefton and Lytham Hall in Fylde. He left his homes and lands to his son, who was also named Richard.

Sir Richard Molyneux married twice. His first wife was a daughter of Lord Strange. Around 1590, he married Frances Gerard. She was the daughter of Sir Gilbert Gerard and Anne Radcliffe.
Sir Richard and Frances had many children, 13 in total. They had six sons and seven daughters. Two of their sons became well-known: Sir Richard Molyneux, 1st Viscount Molyneux and Sir Vivian Molyneux.
Their oldest daughter, Alice Molyneux, married Sir William Dormer. Their son, Robert, was given the title Earl of Carnarvon in 1628. This was a very important noble title. Another daughter, Margaret, married Edward Osbaldeston. They had children, including Richard Osbaldston.
