Vlado Kristl facts for kids
Vladislav "Vlado" Kristl (born January 24, 1923, in Zagreb, Croatia – died July 7, 2004, in Munich, Germany) was a talented filmmaker and artist. He was especially known for his amazing animated films and short movies.
About Vlado Kristl
Vlado Kristl was born in Zagreb, Croatia. He became famous around the world for his unique and challenging animated films. One of his most well-known works is Don Kihot (1961). This animated film was inspired by the famous book Don Quixote.
Don Kihot was a very special film. It used graphics and abstract art in new ways, going beyond what people expected from animation. It even won the main prize at the Oberhausen International Short Film Festival. Kristl felt that this film, even though it wasn't his first, was where he truly had the freedom to create what he wanted.
In 1962, Kristl made a short live-action film called General i resni clovek (The General and the Real Man). This film was a satire, meaning it used humor to criticize something. It caused some problems for him with the people who censored films at the time.
Vlado Kristl passed away in 2004 when he was 81 years old, in Munich, Germany. He had two children with his partner Jelena: Madeleine (born in 1966) and Pepe Stephan (born in 1968).
He also wrote poetry! He published two books of poems in Croatian: Neznatna lirika (which means Insignificant Lyrics, published in 1959) and Pet bijelih stepenica (meaning Five White Steps, published in 1961). He also wrote several books in German.
