Volcán is a town located in the Chiriquí Province of Panama. It is part of the Tierras Altas District. In 2010, about 12,717 people lived here. The town covers an area of 233.7 square kilometers.
Volcán sits on an old lava flow from Volcán Barú. This is the highest point in all of Panama! It stands tall at 3,475 meters (11,460 feet). Some smaller mountains south of Volcán were once part of Volcán Barú. They were moved to their current spot by a powerful volcanic eruption long ago.

Panama's Food Basket
Volcán is known as the "heart of the breadbasket of Panama." This means it's a very important area for growing food. Many roads from Volcán lead to different farming communities. These include Cerro Punta, Plaza de Caisan, and La Concepcion.
What Grows Here?
Farmers in and around Volcán grow many different crops. These include onions, cabbage, carrots, and coffee. They also grow bananas, potatoes, lettuce, corn, and tomatoes. You can find cauliflower, broccoli, and even beautiful cut flowers here.
Animal Farms
Besides crops, there are many farms with animals. You can see large dairy farms, horse farms, and cattle farms. There are also smaller farms with sheep, pigs, and chickens. A few kilometers north of Volcán, you can find a large trout farm.
Supporting Farmers
A big Catholic High School called San Benito helps the farming community. Its goal is to improve farming methods in Panama. This helps farmers grow even more food for the country.

Volcán is located 1,400 meters (4,617 feet) above sea level. Because of its height, the weather feels like spring all year round.
Temperatures and Seasons
During the day, temperatures are usually in the mid-20s Celsius (upper 70s Fahrenheit). At night, they drop to the upper 10s Celsius (lower 60s Fahrenheit). Volcán has two main seasons: a wet season and a dry season. The dry season usually starts around December 15th and lasts for about four months.

Volcán is a corregimiento, which is a type of local administrative division. It includes several smaller communities and populated places.

Some of these communities are Nueva California, El Valle, and Colonia del Valle. Other places include Las Perlas, Brisas del Norte, 6 de Agosto, and La Florida. You can also find Ojos de Agua, La Fuente, El Llano, and Bella Vista.
