Kids Encyclopedia Facts

WINS is a radio station in New York City, New York. It first started way back in 1924. This station is special because it's an all-news station, and it has been since 1965. In fact, it's the oldest all-news station in the whole United States! People often call it Ten-Ten WINS when they talk about it on the radio. It is owned by a company called CBS Radio.

About WINS Radio

When WINS first began, it played rock and roll music. But on April 19, 1965, everything changed! The station switched to playing news all day, every day, around the clock. This new way of doing things was very successful, and the station hasn't changed its main style much since then.

What Makes WINS Special?

WINS is famous for a few cool things. One is a special sound effect that sounds like an old teletype machine. This sound plays in the background of their broadcasts. Even though many other stations stopped using this sound, WINS kept it!

They also have some well-known slogans. These include "All News, All the Time," "The Newswatch Never Stops," and "Listen 2, 3, 4 times a day." Another famous slogan is "You give us 22 minutes, we'll give you the world." This last one means that they play a full segment of news every 20 minutes, so you can quickly catch up on what's happening in the world.
