Waaris (which means Heir in English) is an Indian Hindi television show. It started on May 16, 2016, and was shown on &TV. The show finished on December 1, 2017. The main song for the series was sung by the Nooran Sisters.

The story of Waaris is based on a tradition called Bacha posh. This is a practice where a family raises a girl as a boy. The show stars Aarti Singh and Saniya Touqeer in the main roles. Other important actors include Anand Suryavanshi, Akshay Dogra, and Swati Bajpai.

What the Story is About

The show tells the story of Amba, a mother from Punjab. She raises her daughter, Manpreet Pawania, as a boy. This is done to protect her family and village. The story explores the challenges and results of this decision. It also shows how a mother's love can be very strong. The series highlights the unfair treatment some people face because of their gender.

Seven Years Later

Amba continues to raise Manpreet as a boy, calling her Mannu. This is to make sure Mannu's father's position in the village is kept safe. Amba does this because her brother-in-law, Jaggan, is a very strict person. She fears he might harm the village if he gains power.

Mannu faces many difficulties trying to hide that she is a girl. She tries hard to act like the son her mother needs. Mannu becomes friends with Raj Bajwa, a boy who has a disability. Raj's father often ignores him because of his condition. Mannu and Raj work together to bring peace to their village.

Mannu's older sister, Simran (Simmi), falls in love with Raman, who is Raj's older brother. Mannu sees this as a chance to unite the two families, Pawania and Bajwa, who have been fighting. She hopes their love can bring the families closer.

Ten Years Later

Mannu has now grown up and is known as Preet. Raj falls in love with Preet, not knowing she is Mannu. Later, Preet finds out that Raj was not honest with her. He wanted to hurt the Pawaniya family's reputation. Raj wrongly believed that Mannu had killed his older brother.

Raj then reveals Preet's true identity and marries her because of his plan. With help from Amrit, Raj's mother, Preet enters the Bajwa family home. Then, Sakshi, Raj's best friend, comes into their lives. Sakshi loves Raj, but he does not feel the same way about her. Sakshi and Mohini often make plans against Preet. Raj sometimes uses Sakshi to make Preet feel jealous.

Simmi, Mannu's sister, is alive but has lost her memory. She is also mentally unwell. Rohan, Raj's brother, who drinks a lot, finds Simmi. He wanted to use her to harm the Pawaniya family's name. However, he eventually falls in love with her. Mohini becomes very scared because Simmi knows that Mohini, not Mannu, killed Raman.

Raj and Preet try hard to help Simmi get her memory back, but they do not succeed. Mohini, still afraid, brings Chandar back into their lives. Chandar is now a fraud and tries to flirt with both Preet and Simmi. He decides to marry Simmi, which Preet and Amba do not want. Raj helps Preet, but he makes her sign a contract. The contract says he will help her if she agrees to divorce him later.

Preet signs the contract and decides to marry Chandar to save Simmi. But seeing Preet close to Chandar, Raj realizes he loves her. Preet, however, no longer trusts him. Raj and Rohan soon discover that Mohini killed Raman. They try to prove it, but Mohini frames Preet again. Jagan is arrested for kidnapping Babli and blackmailing his family.

On the day Preet is supposed to marry Chandar, Mohini is arrested. Simmi secretly marries Rohan and gets her memory back. Preet is saved from Chandar but is shot while protecting Raj from him. Chandar is arrested but still plans against Preet. Simmi rejects Rohan and does not believe they are married. Amba does not want her daughters to have any connection with the Bajwa family.

Raj tells Preet he loves her, but Preet rejects him. Now, Raj and Rohan both fight for the love of Preet and Simmi, but both sisters reject them. Preet makes Amba the leader of the Pawaniya family. Others oppose this, and Chandar has a big plan against them. There is a conflict between men and women in the village. Raj supports Preet, but she does not trust him. To help and save the Pawaniya family and the women, Raj and Rohan come home disguised as women from an NGO.
