What Was Wacko?
Wacko was a half-hour show made especially for children. It aired on Saturday mornings, a popular time for kids' TV. The show was a mix of live-action comedy and music, designed to be fast-paced and entertaining. It was hosted by Bo Kaprall and Julie McWhirter.
Funny Skits and Characters
The show was full of silly skits that made viewers laugh. One popular part was called "Clown Doctor." In this skit, a doctor who was also a clown would call for his nurse by shouting "Noiss Noiss!" When the nurse, who was a bit scatterbrained, finally came in, the Clown Doctor would point to his head. With a close-up on his face, he would say, "Nobody home... vacant," meaning the nurse wasn't thinking clearly. This was a running joke that many viewers enjoyed.
Musical Guests and Performances
Besides the comedy, Wacko also featured musical guests. These guests would perform songs for the audience. In the fall of 1977, a band called The Dwight Twilley Band appeared on the show. They played their new song at the time, "I Remember..." A special guest joined them on stage: a songwriter named Tom Petty. He played the bass guitar for their performance. At that time, Tom Petty was not very well known, but he would later become a very famous musician.
