The Wadhams Road–Pine River Bridge was a special bridge in Saint Clair Township, Michigan. It carried Wadhams Road over the Pine River. This bridge was one of the last of its kind. It was a "curved-chord through girder bridge," which was a unique design mostly found in Michigan. Sadly, the bridge was taken down in 2007.

History of the Bridge

This bridge was a team effort. The Michigan State Highway Department and the St. Clair County Road Commission worked together. They each paid half of the cost.

In 1927, the State Highway Department asked companies to bid on building the bridge. Walter Toebe and Company, from Shingleton, Michigan, won the contract. They were paid about $37,679 for their work. There was also an extra cost of $2,791 for cement. The total cost to build the bridge was about $47,971.

What the Bridge Looked Like

The Wadhams Road Bridge was about 150 feet (46 meters) long. It had two main sections, each about 70 feet (21 meters) long. These sections were made of concrete and had a special curved shape.

The bridge was 28 feet (8.5 meters) wide. It had a roadway that was 22 feet (6.7 meters) wide for cars. Concrete walls on each side acted as railings. Each wall had five openings. Below these openings, there were 14 square panels that were set back a little. The bridge rested on a strong concrete base. This base had slightly pointed ends to help cut through the water.
