Wala (goddess) facts for kids
Wala is an important sun goddess in Australian Aboriginal mythology. These are the traditional stories and beliefs of the Indigenous people of Australia. Wala is known for her power over the sun and how she helps control its heat.
Wala: Goddess of the Sun
Wala lived with her sister, Bara, and her sister-in-law, Madalait. In Aboriginal stories, goddesses like Wala often represent natural forces. Wala's main role was connected to the sun and its daily journey across the sky.
Wala's Daily Journey
Every day, Wala and her sister Bara would travel across the sky with the sun. However, Wala noticed something important. She realized that Bara was making the Earth too hot. To protect the land and its people, Wala decided to make Bara stop her part of the journey.
After this, Wala went on a special trip. She traveled to the southern mountains to bring the sun back. Once she had the sun, she carefully stored it in a bag. She kept the sun safe in this bag until the moon disappeared from the sky, ready for its next journey.
