Walker Creek is a stream, which is like a small river, located in Apache County, Arizona. It flows through a beautiful part of the American Southwest. This stream is an important natural feature in the area.

Where Does Walker Creek Flow?

Walker Creek starts high up in the Carrizo Mountains. Its journey begins where two smaller canyons, Alcove Canyon and Tah Chin Lini Canyon, meet. This starting point is called its source. From there, the stream flows generally west and northwest.

The stream travels quite a distance before it reaches its mouth. The mouth is where a stream or river ends by joining a larger body of water. For Walker Creek, its mouth is where it flows into Chinle Creek. This meeting point is at an elevation of about 4,688 feet (1,429 meters).

Along its path, Walker Creek is joined by smaller streams. One of these is Hogansaani Spring, which adds its water to Walker Creek. Hogansaani Spring is located on the south side of Walker Creek.

History of Walker Creek

Walker Creek got its name in 1915. It was named by a person named Herbert E. Gregory. He chose the name to honor Captain Walker's Expedition, which took place back in 1859.

Interestingly, a part of Walker Creek's path was once followed by an important historical route. This route was called the Old Spanish Trail. Specifically, the Armijo Route of this famous trail used to follow along some parts of Walker Creek. The Old Spanish Trail was a historic trade route that connected New Mexico with California in the 1800s.
