He was a player in the top league, which was then called the Victorian Football League (VFL). He played for two famous teams: Collingwood and Richmond. After his time in the VFL, he also played for the Brunswick team in the VFA.

Wally Lovett's Football Journey

Wally Lovett started his football career playing for the Heywood team in the Western Border Football League. This helped him get noticed by bigger clubs. He was known for his skills and speed on the field.

Playing for Collingwood

In 1982, Wally Lovett joined the Collingwood Magpies. This was a big step, as Collingwood is one of the oldest and most popular clubs in the VFL. During his time with Collingwood, he played in 15 games and scored 11 goals. Playing in the VFL meant competing against the best players in Australia.

Time with Richmond

After one season with Collingwood, Wally Lovett moved to the Richmond Tigers. He played for Richmond during the 1983 and 1984 seasons. While at Richmond, he played 13 games and kicked 6 goals. In total, across both clubs, he played 28 games and scored 17 goals in the VFL.

Representing Indigenous All-Stars

In 1983, Wally Lovett was chosen to play for the Aboriginal All-Stars team. This was a special team made up of the best Indigenous Australian rules football players. He played one game for this team and scored 4 goals, which was a great achievement.

Later Years in Football

After his time in the VFL, Wally Lovett continued to play football in the VFA. He joined the Brunswick team. The VFA was another strong league where many talented players competed.
