Park History and Development
Walnut Street Park was built around 1998. It is located in a busy neighborhood southeast of Downtown Hillsboro. In 2006, the Hillsboro School District started using the park for its free summer lunch program. This program helps make sure kids have healthy meals during school breaks.
Recent Park Improvements
In 2012, the park received many exciting upgrades. A special federal grant helped pay for these changes. New park benches were added, and fresh grass was planted. One of the most popular additions was a new splash pad, perfect for cooling off on hot days.
The park also got new sod (grass) in October 2012. This sod came from a former softball field. That field was moved to make room for the new Hillsboro baseball stadium. These improvements made Walnut Street Park even better for everyone to enjoy.
What You Can Do at the Park
This 2.5-acre park is located right in a neighborhood, surrounded by homes. It doesn't have wild natural areas, but it's full of green spaces. You'll find many older trees that provide shade, along with open grassy areas.
