Walter Lloyd (born 1580, died 1661) was a Welsh politician. He was a member of the House of Commons, which is like a part of the government, from 1640 to 1644. Walter Lloyd supported the King's side, known as the Royalists, during the English Civil War.

Walter Lloyd was born in 1580. His father was John Lloyd, from places called Llanfair, Clydogan, and Llanney. When Walter was 15, he started studying at Lincoln College, Oxford in 1595. This was a big step for his education.

Early Life and Education

Later, in 1615, Walter Lloyd became a student at Inner Temple. This was a special place in London where people learned to become lawyers. In 1621, he took on an important local role. He became the High Sheriff of Cardiganshire, which meant he was a key official in his home area.

Walter Lloyd's Political Career

In November 1640, Walter Lloyd was chosen to be a Member of Parliament for Cardiganshire. This meant he represented his area in the Long Parliament, a very important meeting of the government.

Supporting the King

Walter Lloyd was a strong supporter of King Charles I. He was even made a knight by the King in 1643. However, because he supported the King during the English Civil War, he was removed from Parliament in 1644. This happened because the Parliament was fighting against the King.

Challenges After the War

After the war, Walter Lloyd faced some difficulties. He had to pay large sums of money as fines. His property was also taken over for a time. Despite these challenges, people described him as a very smart and fair person. They said he was good at speaking and writing. Many believed he was naturally skilled at managing the affairs of his country.

Later Life

Walter Lloyd was married to Bridget Lloyd. He lived to be over 80 years old. He even lived long enough to see the King return to power in 1660. This event is known as the Restoration.
