Waluwara Country: Where They Lived
The Waluwara people lived on a large area of land, covering about 7,100 square miles (18,390 square kilometers). Their traditional lands were along the Georgina River. This area stretched north from a place called Roxborough Downs all the way to Carandotta and Urandangi.
Their territory also included Moonah Creek and the area around Rochedale. To the southwest, their land reached near Pituri Creek. These rivers and creeks were very important for their way of life, providing water and resources.
How Waluwara Society Was Organized
The Waluwara people were made up of several smaller groups, often called 'hordes' or 'clans'. Each of these groups lived in a specific part of the Waluwara territory. Some of the known groups included:
- Didjadidja: This group lived near Roxborough.
- Kapula: They were found around Carandotta.
