This group includes many well-known fruits like blackberries and raspberries. Rubus arcuans is called a "dewberry" because its stems often trail along the ground. It was first officially described by scientists in 1921.

Where Does It Grow?

This rare plant lives in specific areas of eastern Canada and the northeastern United States. In Canada, you can find it in Québec, Nova Scotia, and Prince Edward Island. In the United States, it grows in Massachusetts and Maine. Because it only grows in these few places, it is considered a rare species. This means there are not many of them around.

Why is it Special?

The Rubus group of plants is very interesting to scientists. Their genetics (how their traits are passed down) are super complex! This complexity makes it hard for scientists to figure out exactly which plants should be called separate species.
