Warren Ballpark is a famous sports stadium in Bisbee, Arizona. It is a special place for both baseball and football. This historic ballpark was built way back in 1909. That makes it one of the oldest baseball stadiums in the United States! It's even older than Chicago's famous Wrigley Field.
A mining company called Calumet and Arizona built the ballpark. They wanted to give miners and their families a fun place to relax. Today, the ballpark is home to the Bisbee Killer Termites and the Bisbee High School Pumas baseball and football teams. It has also hosted professional teams like the Tucson Saguaros and the Bisbee-Douglas Copper Kings.
About Warren Ballpark
Warren Ballpark is a very large sports area. It covers about 40 acres of land. An 8-foot (about 2.4 meters) tall wooden fence surrounds the entire park. The park is split into two main parts. There is a baseball field on the east side. A football stadium is located on the west side.
The Baseball Field
The baseball field has a cool, shaded concrete grandstand. This grandstand is where fans sit to watch the games. It was built in 1909 and still looks much like it did back then. Because it is so old and well-preserved, it is listed as a state historic building. Underneath the grandstand, you can find the team dugouts. There are also locker rooms, showers, and offices for the team managers.
The Football Field
The football field is set up to run north to south. It has a gridiron, which is the playing area for football. Modern steel bleachers are placed along both sides of the field. These bleachers are where fans sit to cheer on their teams. Sometimes, these bleachers have been moved back to make the baseball outfield bigger.
A Place in History
Warren Ballpark is important for more than just sports. It played a role in American history. In 1917, a big event called the Bisbee Deportation happened here. During this time, many miners were gathered at the ballpark. This event is a significant part of labor history in the United States. It shows how the ballpark was used for important community events, not just games.
