The Washington Black Senators were a professional Negro league baseball team. They were based in Washington, D.C.. This team played in the Negro National League. This league was very important because it gave African American baseball players a chance to play professionally. At that time, Black players were not allowed in Major League Baseball.

The Black Senators team was formed in 1938. They took the place of another team, the Washington Elite Giants. That team had moved to Baltimore, Maryland. The Black Senators played only one season in the Negro National League. Their record was 2 wins and 13 losses.

The team was managed by Ben Taylor. Even though the team had a tough season, some players did very well. Third baseman Henry Spearman was one of their best hitters. He had a batting average of .340. Outfielder Buddy Burbage also hit well, with a .313 batting average.
