Wassand Hall

Wassand Hall is a large country house located in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England. It sits west of the town of Hornsea, looking out over Hornsea Mere. This beautiful lake is actually part of the hall's large estate. Wassand Hall is a very important building, recognized as a Grade II* listed building since 1952. This means it's a special historic place that needs to be protected. Inside the hall, you can find many old and valuable items. These include paintings from the 1700s and 1800s, fancy silver items, antique furniture, and a collection of delicate porcelain.

The Constable family has owned the land where Wassand Hall stands since around 1520. The current house was built in 1815. It replaced an older house that was torn down because it was falling apart. The new house was built in the "Regency" style, which was popular at that time. In 1975, the estate was passed to Lady Ernestine Strickland-Constable. After she passed away in 1995, her great-nephew, Rupert Russell, became the owner. He now lives at Wassand Hall with his wife, Catherine.

Wassand Hall During World War II

During World War II, Wassand Hall played a part in the war effort. The army took over the house for a while. It was used by the Free French forces. These were French soldiers and people who continued to fight against Germany even after France was occupied.
