Waste No Food is a special non-profit organization in the United States. It helps stop good food from being wasted. They have a website and an app that connect places with extra food, like restaurants and grocery stores, to charities that feed people in need. This makes it easy for farms, stores, and restaurants to give their extra food to places like homeless shelters. Other groups check these charities to make sure they are real and help people. Anyone can use the Waste No Food app or website to donate food.

How Waste No Food Started

Waste No Food was started in 2011 by a young person named Kiran Sridhar. He was only 12 years old and in 7th grade at a school in the Bay Area. He wanted to help make sure food got to people who needed it and stop it from being thrown away.

In 2014, when Kiran was 16, he won a special award called the Gloria Barron Prize for Young Heroes. Big companies like PayPal helped Waste No Food get started. They gave money and even sent engineers to help build the technology. Other companies like Appcelerator and Winwire also helped.

Kiran Sridhar still leads the organization today. Waste No Food first focused on the Silicon Valley area. Later, it grew to include San Francisco.

Making a Difference

By the end of 2015, Waste No Food had helped deliver over 1,000,000 meals to people. They work with many important partners. These include Levi's Stadium, the City of San Jose Mayor's Office, PayPal, and the San Francisco 49ers football team.

Waste No Food also has a special partnership in Tampa Bay, Florida. This partnership is with the Tampa Bay Network to End Hunger. Their goal is to help stop hunger in that area.
