A Journey Through Time: Water Street Music Hall's Story

Water Street Music Hall first opened its doors in 1977. Since then, it has hosted hundreds of amazing concerts. Many famous artists have played here over the years. Some of these include George Clinton, Parliament Funkadelic, David Byrne, Sublime, Marilyn Manson, and St. Vincent.

Changing Names Over the Years

This music hall has had a few different names in the past. It was once known as The Country Warehouse, The Horizontal Boogie Bar, and The Boogie Bar. In 1994, its name officially became Water Street Music Hall. More recently, in 2020, it reopened as Water Street 2020. The smaller stage inside, which used to be called The Club at Water Street, also reopened in 2020 as Jack's Live on Water Street.

A Brief Stop: Funk 'n Waffles

For a short time, from 2017 to 2018, a waffle company from Syracuse called Funk 'n Waffles took over the space.

Busy Years and Famous Visitors

Between 2000 and 2014, Water Street Music Hall had many sold-out shows. This means tickets for concerts were completely gone! Besides music bands, the hall also welcomed famous people. For example, former President Bill Clinton visited the hall. He was in Rochester to help raise money for Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign. The saxophone he used and signed during his visit can still be seen at the House of Guitars. During these busy years, Water Street Music Hall had a coat check service. It also hosted many "battle of the bands" events, where different bands competed. There was a bar and a small parking lot too.

Reopening as Water Street 2020

After Funk 'n Waffles closed in 2018, the original owner, Peter Sewell, announced exciting news. He shared that he would be reopening the venue as Water Street 2020.
