The Waterbury Center Methodist Church is a very old and important building in Waterbury Center, Vermont. Today, it's known as the Waterbury Center Community Church. It was built way back in 1833. This church is a famous sight in the village and shows a special kind of building style called Federal architecture. Because it's so important, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1978.

About the Church Building
The Waterbury Center Community Church is located in the village of Waterbury Center. You can find it on the east side of Vermont Route 100. It's a two-story building made of brick, and it has a roof shaped like a triangle, called a gabled roof.
Outside the Church
A tall, wooden tower stands on top of the church's roof. This tower has two main parts. The bottom part is square, and the top part, where the bell used to be, is shaped like an octagon (an eight-sided shape). On top of that is a pointy steeple.
The front of the church has three sections with windows. These windows are rectangular, and above them, you can see a curved brick design. The main entrance has two doors. Above these doors is a flat brick piece. Look up at the very top of the front wall, and you'll see a half-round, fan-shaped window.
Inside the Church
When the church was first built, the inside was one big open room. It had a balcony, or "gallery," above. But in 1858, a full second floor was added. At that time, parts of the original box pews (which are like enclosed benches) were used to create smaller rooms downstairs. One of these new rooms became a kitchen.
History of the Church
The Waterbury Center Methodist Church was finished in 1833. The bricks used to build it were similar to those used for other houses in the area from that time.
Changes Over Time
In 1894, beautiful stained glass windows were given to the church. Later, in 1919, the church's group joined together with the local Baptist group. The Waterbury Center Community Church officially became its own organization in 1963. This building is a great example of how rural Federal architecture looked a long time ago.
