Waterford Mills is a small place in Elkhart Township, Elkhart County, Indiana, USA. It's what we call an unincorporated community. This means it's a group of homes and businesses that isn't officially a town or city with its own local government. Instead, it's part of a larger area, like a township or county.

History

Waterford Mills has an interesting past! A long time ago, in 1833, people built a special kind of mill called a gristmill on the east side of the Elkhart River. A gristmill is a building where grain, like corn or wheat, is ground into flour. This was a very important place because it helped people make food.

The small village that grew up around this mill was named Waterford. Later, in 1853, a post office was opened there, and it was called Waterford Mills. A post office is where people send and receive letters and packages. This post office stayed open for many years, until 1904, when it closed down.
