Wayde Compton's Writing and Projects
Wayde Compton has written many books. These include collections of poems, essays, and fiction stories. He also put together the first big collection of writings by Black authors from British Columbia. This collection helps people learn about the rich history of Black writers in the area.
Helping New Writers and Communities
In 2006, Wayde Compton helped start Commodore Books. He worked with David Chariandy and Karina Vernon to create this publishing company. It was the first publishing house in Western Canada that focused on books by Black authors. This helped many new voices share their work.
He also helped create the Hogan's Alley Memorial Project in 2002. This group works to teach people about the history of Vancouver's Black community. They help keep important stories and memories alive.
Teaching and Special Poems
Wayde Compton teaches writing at Douglas College. He helps students learn how to write their own stories and poems.
In 1996, he wrote a special poem called "Declaration of the Halfrican Nation." This poem was partly about his own life and experiences.
