The lighthouse at Weavers Point is a modern structure. It was built and first lit in 1980. Lighthouses are very important. They send out bright lights to guide ships safely, especially at night or in bad weather. They warn sailors about dangerous rocks or shallow waters.

How the Lighthouse Works

The Weavers Point Lighthouse is a tall, square tower. It is made of a metal frame covered with shiny aluminium panels. At the very top of the tower is the powerful light. This lighthouse stands about 20 meters (about 65 feet) high. Its light can be seen from about 7 nautical miles away. That's roughly 13 kilometers or 8 miles!

When it was built in 1980, the lighthouse was designed to be fully automated. This means that no one lives there to operate it. Instead, it works by itself, using technology to keep the light shining. This helps to ensure that ships always have a guide when they are near Weavers Point.
