Wendell Harrison Phillips (November 19, 1934 – January 29, 1993) was an American politician. He served in the Maryland House of Delegates. This is a group of elected officials who make laws for the state of Maryland. Phillips was also the first African American chairman of the Baltimore City Delegation. This group represents Baltimore City in the state legislature. He was one of three delegates for the 41st legislative district. This area is in the central, northwest part of Baltimore City.

About Wendell Phillips
Wendell Phillips was born in Brooklyn, New York. His family later moved to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He went to Westinghouse High School in Pittsburgh. He also earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Virginia Union University. Later, he studied at Penn State University. He received his Master of Divinity degree from Colgate Rochester Crozer Divinity School.
His Work as a Pastor
Phillips was an ordained clergyman. He founded the Heritage United Church of Christ in Baltimore, Maryland. He served as its pastor from 1964 to 1993. He also helped with the U.S. Civil Rights Commission Advisory Board. This board works to protect people's rights. He was president of the Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance in Baltimore. He also attended a special conference in 1976. This meeting brought together Christians, Israelis, and Palestinians.

Wendell Phillips married Dorothy Allen on June 11, 1960. She was from Rochester, New York. They had one son together, named Wendell Fitzgerald Phillips. Their son also became a politician. He served in the Maryland General Assembly, just like his father.
