History of West Chester

West Chester has a long history! It was first planned out and mapped in 1814. When a place is "laid out and platted," it means someone drew up a detailed map showing where streets, lots, and buildings would go. This helps people build and organize the community.

For a while, West Chester was also known by another name: Cadwallader. There was even a post office there called Cadwallader. It opened in 1828, which was a very long time ago! The post office helped people send and receive letters and packages. It stayed open for many years, finally closing in 1918.
