West Eminence, Missouri facts for kids
West Eminence is a small, quiet place in Shannon County, in the U.S. state of Missouri. It's known as an unincorporated community, which means it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town does. Instead, it's part of the larger county area.
A Look Back at West Eminence's History
West Eminence got its name because it's located just west of another town called Eminence. Imagine looking at a map; West Eminence would be to the left of Eminence!
For many years, people living in West Eminence could send and receive mail right in their own community. A special building called a post office was opened there in 1910. This post office was a busy spot for over 40 years, helping people connect with others through letters and packages. However, in 1957, the post office closed its doors. Even though the post office is gone, the community of West Eminence continues to be a part of Shannon County's history and present.
