History of West Hanover
Long ago, the original Hanover Township in Dauphin County was very large. It was later divided into three smaller townships. These new areas became East Hanover, West Hanover, and South Hanover townships. This division helped manage the growing communities better.
Geography and Location
West Hanover Township covers an area of about 60.1 square kilometers (23.2 square miles). All of this land is dry land, with no large bodies of water.
Communities in West Hanover
Several smaller communities are found within the township.
- Skyline View is a community in the southern part. It is a place where people live but it is not an official town.
- Ritzie Village is located in the northern part. You can find it north of where PA 443 and Mountain Road meet.
- Other small villages include Piketown and Manadahill.

West Hanover Township has grown a lot over the years. The first official count in 1800 showed 1,862 residents. By 2020, the population had grown to 10,693 people.
