A Look at West Jefferson's Past

West Jefferson has had a few different names over the years. It was once known as Durbins Corners. Later, its name changed to Karle.

A post office was opened in Durbins Corners in 1850. This was an important place where people could send and receive letters. In 1882, when the name changed to Karle, the post office name changed too. However, the post office eventually closed down in 1902.

Besides the post office, West Jefferson also had a country store. This store was a central spot for people to buy everyday items and meet their neighbors.
