Weymouth, Ohio facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Weymouth is a small, unincorporated community located in Medina County, in the U.S. state of Ohio. An "unincorporated community" means it's a group of homes and businesses that isn't officially a town or city with its own local government. Instead, it's usually part of a larger county or township.

History of Weymouth

Weymouth got its name from a place called Weymouth, Massachusetts. An early settler who moved to Ohio from Massachusetts decided to name this new community after their old home. This was a common way for new settlements to get their names back then.

A post office was opened in Weymouth in 1824. This was a very important place for people to send and receive letters and packages. The post office served the community for many years, finally closing its doors in 1905.

By the 1880s, Weymouth was a busy little place. It had a cheese factory, which was important for making and selling dairy products, and several country stores where people could buy everyday goods. These businesses helped the community grow and thrive.
