Whitby Seafoods Limited is a special company located in Whitby, England. It's a family-owned business that makes yummy frozen seafood. They are famous for their scampi, which is a type of seafood coated in batter or breadcrumbs. Whitby Seafoods says they are the biggest scampi factory in the whole world! They make over a million servings of scampi every single week.

The Story of Whitby Seafoods

How It Started

Whitby Seafoods began its journey in 1985. A person named Graham Whittle bought a company called Whitby Shellfish Company. It wasn't working anymore, but Graham had a big idea. He wanted to change how breaded scampi was made in Britain.

He moved the company to a new, much bigger factory. This factory was about 40,000 square feet, which is a huge space! It was built just outside the town of Whitby.

Family Leadership

Graham Whittle was the boss for many years. In October 2015, he decided to retire from his main role. His son, Daniel, took over as the new managing director.

Today, Daniel leads the company with his sister, Laura Whittle. Laura is in charge of sales and marketing. Their brother, Edward Whittle, helps the business grow and find new opportunities. It's truly a family effort!

What Whitby Seafoods Does

Making Scampi

Whitby Seafoods is the largest maker of scampi in Britain. They also believe they are the biggest in the entire world! In 2017, they processed about 7,635 tonnes of scampi. That's a lot of seafood! Their sales were around £53 million that year.

Products in Stores

The company started selling its products in 20 different stores of a big British supermarket in 2008. People really liked their scampi! So, by 2012, their products were sold in 700 stores of the same supermarket.

New Look and Mascot

In 2014, Whitby Seafoods decided to give their brand a fresh new look. They worked with an advertising company to create new packaging. They also introduced a fun mascot named Graham The Gull!

Their new slogan became 'Bloomin Special Seafood'. The packaging now shows pictures of beach huts and other lovely scenes from Whitby. This helps people feel like they are at the seaside when they see the products.

Featured on TV

Whitby Seafoods even appeared on a TV show! In June 2013, they were featured in a Channel 4 documentary called "Food Unwrapped". This show explores where our food comes from and how it's made.
