Whitby Seafoods Limited is a company based in Whitby, North Yorkshire, England. It is a family-owned business that makes frozen seafood products. These products are often coated in batter or breadcrumbs. The company says it has the biggest scampi factory in the world. They make over a million servings of scampi every week!

How Whitby Seafoods Started

Whitby Seafoods began in 1985. A man named Graham Whittle bought a company called Whitby Shellfish Company. This company was not working anymore. Graham wanted to make the best breaded scampi in Britain.

He moved the business to a new factory. This factory was very big, about 40,000 square feet! It was built on the edge of Whitby.

In 2015, Graham Whittle retired. His son, Daniel, took over as the boss. Daniel now leads the company with his sister, Laura, and his brother, Edward. It is still a family business!

Growing the Business

Whitby Seafoods has grown by buying other companies. In 2007, they bought Middleton Seafoods. Then in 2011, they bought Rockall. Both of these companies were in Northern Ireland. They combined them into one company called Kilkeel Seafoods.

They also bought Galloway Seafoods in Scotland. This helped Whitby Seafoods become even bigger.

What Whitby Seafoods Does

Whitby Seafoods is the largest maker of scampi in Britain. They also believe they are the biggest in the world! Each year, they process over 7,600 tonnes of scampi. In 2017, they sold products worth £53 million.

In 2008, Whitby Seafoods started selling its products in 20 stores of a big British supermarket. By 2012, their products were in 700 stores of the same supermarket!

In 2014, the company changed its look. They worked with an advertising company to create a new mascot. This mascot is a seagull named Graham The Gull. Their new slogan is "Bloomin Special Seafood." The new packaging for their products shows seaside pictures, like beach huts from Whitby.

Whitby Seafoods was even featured on TV! They appeared in a show called "Food Unwrapped" on Channel 4 in June 2013.
