The white-bibbed manakin (Corapipo leucorrhoa) is a small, colorful bird that lives in the forests of Colombia and Venezuela. It belongs to a bird family called Pipridae, which are known for their bright colors and interesting courtship dances.

This special bird gets its name from the bright white patch of feathers on its throat and chest, which looks like a "bib." The rest of its body is mostly black. White-bibbed manakins are usually found in warm, wet places.

Where White-Bibbed Manakins Live

White-bibbed manakins make their homes in two main types of habitats:

  • Tropical Lowland Forests: These are forests found in flat areas, close to sea level, where it's always warm and rainy.
  • Tropical Montane Forests: These are forests found on the sides of mountains, where it's still warm and wet, but at higher elevations.

These birds love places with lots of trees and plants, where they can find food and stay safe.

Family Tree: White-Bibbed Manakin's Relatives

For a long time, the white-bibbed manakin (Corapipo leucorrhoa) was thought to be the same species as another bird called the white-ruffed manakin (Corapipo altera).

Scientists who study birds often look closely at their features, songs, and DNA. Sometimes, they discover that birds once thought to be the same species are actually different enough to be considered separate species. This is what happened with these two manakins. They were "split" into their own distinct species. When they were considered one species, they were both called the white-ruffed manakin. Now, we know them as two unique kinds of birds.
