The History of White Park

White Park was created thanks to a gift from Armenia White. She was a kind person who helped her community. The park was designed by a famous landscape architect named Charles Eliot.

Most of the park's main features were finished in the 1890s. This included building two ponds. Some of the trees and bushes along Washington Street are still there from when the park first opened. They are very old and special.

In the 1930s, the park got even more sports areas. This was helped by money from the Works Progress Administration. At that time, the smaller of the two ponds was filled in. A swimming pool was built in its place. White Park was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1982. This means it's an important historical place.
