Whitehawk facts for kids

Whitehawk is a neighborhood in Brighton, a city on England's south coast. It's a large area with many homes, first built by the local council in the 1930s. Later, in the 1960s, some tall apartment buildings called the Swanborough flats were added. Starting in the late 1970s, the whole area was updated and improved.

Whitehawk is located in a valley and is partly surrounded by Brighton's horse racing track. The name "Whitehawk" also comes from an ancient camp from the Stone Age, called a Neolithic camp. This camp is on top of Whitehawk Hill and was used by people about 5,500 years ago!

At the very top of Whitehawk Hill, you can find the remains of a Neolithic camp. This camp is incredibly old, dating back about 5,500 years! It shows that people lived and gathered in this area a very long time ago. Archeologists have studied the site to learn about early human life.

The neighborhood is close to Brighton Racecourse, a place where horse races are held. This adds a unique touch to the area. Whitehawk also has its own local facilities, like a community library, which is a great place for learning and meeting people.
