The Story Behind the Name

Widowville has an interesting name, and there's a special story about how it got it. People say that many widows lived there a long time ago. These women were likely the wives of soldiers who fought in the American Civil War, which happened from 1861 to 1865. After the war, many soldiers did not return home, and their wives became widows. It's thought that many of these women settled in this area, giving it the name Widowville.

When Was Widowville Established?

The community of Widowville was established around 1880. A post office was opened there in 1890. This post office helped people send and receive letters and packages. It stayed open for about 13 years, closing down in 1903. Even though the post office is gone, the community still exists today.
