The Wilbur J. Cohen Federal Building is a historic and important building located at 330 Independence Avenue in Southwest, Washington, D.C.. It was once known as the Social Security Administration Building. This building plays a key role in the United States government.

A Look Back: The Building's Story

The building was designed in 1939 by two talented architects, Charles Klauder and Louis A. Simon. They used a style called Stripped Classical. This style uses simple, strong shapes, often without a lot of extra decoration.

On April 28, 1988, the building was given a new name. It was renamed the "Wilbur J. Cohen Federal Building". This was done to honor Wilbur J. Cohen, who was a very important person in the government. He helped create and improve many social programs, like Social Security.

The building was recognized for its history and design on July 6, 2007. On that day, it was officially added to the National Register of Historic Places. This list includes places that are important to American history and culture.

Today, two main organizations use the building. These are the Voice of America and the U.S. Agency for Global Media. Voice of America is a news service that shares information around the world. The U.S. Agency for Global Media oversees several international news networks. Voice of America moved into the building in 1954.
