Wilcox and the Railroad History

Long ago, Wilcox was an important stop on a railroad line. It was the westernmost point on the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad's line that ran from Jacksonville to Wilcox. This line then connected to another major railroad route. This second route was the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad's line that went from Thomasville to Dunnellon.

Today, you won't see trains running through Wilcox on these old tracks. Instead, the paths where the trains once traveled have been turned into something new and exciting. These old railroad lines are now part of the Nature Coast State Trail. This trail is a popular place for people to walk, run, and bike. It's a great example of how old transportation routes can be reused for outdoor activities and fun!
