Serving as an MP

In 1659, Wilfrid was chosen to be a Member of Parliament for a place called Cockermouth. He served in a government group known as the Third Protectorate Parliament. The next year, in 1660, he was re-elected for Cockermouth. This time, he served in the Convention Parliament.

High Sheriff Role

Later, in 1678, Wilfrid was given another important job. He was appointed High Sheriff of Cumberland. A High Sheriff was a royal officer responsible for keeping peace and order in the county.

The Lawson Family Estate

Wilfrid's father gave him the estate of Brayton. This was a big property that became the home for Wilfrid's branch of the Lawson family. This line of the family later inherited a special title called a baronetcy in 1743. This happened after Sir Mordaunt Lawson, 5th Baronet of Isell passed away.
